Mrs. Christine Jeter Gregory, 97, widow of Frederick Page Gregory, died
Friday, August 6, 2004 at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, SC.
Born in the old L. B. Jeter, Sr. home in Santuck on December 28, 1906,
Mrs. Gregory was a daughter of the late Little Berry and Adeline Crosby
Jeter. She was a graduate of Limestone College. She taught school for 38
years, beginning her career in Pickens County in 1929. For 35 years she
taught in Santuck, first at the old Santuck School and later at Carlsan
Elementary School. When she retired, she was a second grade teacher at
Carlsan School in Santuck. Mrs. Gregory for many years, was a member of
Salem Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer and church clerk, as
well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In 1968, she
joined Cane Creek Presbyterian Church with her husband and was an active
member there.
Mrs. Gregory was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a son, Malcolm Chapin Gregory, of Santuck; a daughter and
son-in-law, Paige Gregory Rumph and Robert Raymond Rumph, of Charleston;
two step-granddaughters, Wendi Lynn Rumph, of Lake Ridge, VA, and Betsy
Rumph Cullen and her husband Matthew Howard Cullen, of Portland, OR; two
step-great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Gregory was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters, Joseph
Hamilton Jeter, John Mobley Jeter, Little Berry Jeter, Jr., Robert Parham
Jeter, Frank Hamilton Jeter, Malcolm Crosby Jeter, Ethel Jeter OKeeffe,
Mildred Jeter Strock, Kate Jeter Strother, Flournoy Belle Jeter, Louise
J. Jeter, and Nancy Jeter Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Cane Creek
Presbyterian Church in Santuck, conducted by the Rev. Robert M. Gant.
Burial will be in the Jeter Cemetery, following the church service.
The family will receive friends at the home, 217 Senate Street in the
Santuck Community.
